Cholesterol is not a problem so lowering it is not necessary. Higher cholesterol has been associated with increased longevity and the prevention and even reversal of neuropathies such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Fiber is essential for gut health which in directly related to overall health and especially brain and immune system health. Fibers in the diet are eaten by the bacteria in the digestive system which in turn excrete such things as serotonin, B vitamins, dopamine and other products which are crucial for health. But lowering cholesterol is not a desirable outcome.

Where do you get your information re: cholesterol is not a problem?

When I was 50 I inquired of a doctor I respected, at the time the head of cardiac surgery and chief of the school if medicine at U of Washington, about an eating plan I wad considering for a particular workout program I was contemplating starting. He recommended I read a book “Life Without Bread” by two heart specialists, Christian B Allan, PhD and Wolfgang Lutz, MD. I did and it completely changed my views about cholesterol. Saturated animal fat is superfood and cholesterol is necessary for every healing process and neurological process in he body. The wall of every cell is made from it and it is the majority Th constituent of your brain. Your body not only makes it but recycled it as necessary.

Other more recent studies (I don’t have the reference at my fingertips but you may be able to find it on the web as long as you use another browser other than Google, Bing or the others equally censored) have shown the the myelin sheath, the covering surrounding the axons in the brain (and by extension, all nerves) is composed of cholesterol and it is when this myelin sheath breaks down and allows the nerves to short circuit that issues like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s arise. The conclusion is that low and no fat diets are directly related to the rise in these brain diseases we see today.

I recommend you start with Drs Allan and Lutz’s book above and then read Dr Dale Bredesen’s book “The End of Alzheimer’s” where he shows that the accumulation of amiloid plaque that has been cited as the cause of Alzheimer’s is actually the body’s natural defense against the deterioration of myelin.

What if cholesterol, of which 90-95% is produced by the body is not the problem it has been made out to be?

When you think about it the powers that be tell you cholesterol is not good for you. 99.9 % of the time they are not telling you the truth. They want you to take a pill and take a shortcut. I have started eating more 100% grass-fed beef and improving my gut health and microbiome and feel better than ever.

Fiber really helps me understand how small, natural habits can make a difference. Soluble fiber—from oats, beans, fruits, and vegetables—binds cholesterol in the gut, reduces LDL (“bad” cholesterol), and even feeds healthy gut bacteria. It’s amazing how something so simple can naturally support heart health over time.
